MkII Leads, Rhythms and Fills

Chamberlin Sounds

The Chamberlin M series has six selections of two sounds each. The guard band in between the two tracks (a and b) of the stereo heads skips one track of the 1/2 in. 8trk tape giving the following order:

8Trk# 3=Chamberlin Trk 6b and 4a
8Trk# 4=Chamberlin Trk 5b and 3a
8Trk# 5=Chamberlin Trk 4b and 2a
8Trk# 6=Chamberlin Trk 3b and 1a
8Trk# 7=Chamberlin Trk 2b
8Trk# 8=Chamberlin Trk 1b

As you can see, tracks 3,4,5 and 6 are available for two pairs each. For example, Selection 1 would give you tracks 1 and 3, selection 2 would give you tracks 2 and 4 and selection 3 gives you tracks 3 (again) and 5. It took exactly 3 beers to figure this out the first time I recorded Chamberlin tapes.

The 3 Violins sound is the only sound that is shared by the Mellotron and always has been. This is the one sound from the original Chamberlin library that the Bradley Bros. and Eric Robinson kept for Mellotron tape production. Often suspected, now confirmed.
